At age 21, David Daniels left college to pursue his own business and dive into the world of entrepreneurship. He never looked back. David’s ability to identify the trajectory of a business and its long-term health have allowed not only his own success, but the success of those he directs and mentors. At Xssentials, he operates as the visionary and chief strategist.
Mike Thul / Co – CEO, Principal & Founder
Mike graduated from Western State Colorado University with a degree in Physics. A 26-year veteran of the consumer electronics and security industries, Mike enjoys developing the technology and processes necessary to deploy leading edge electronic systems in luxury homes. Happy customers and referrals are why Mike continues to enjoy his role at Xssentials. When not at his desk or on a job site, look for Mike at the racetrack where he is an avid racer, instructor, and fan.
John Carlen / COO
John has over 30 years of successful leadership experience of both public and private companies, and is driven by his passion for making homes more enjoyable through technology. John was on the nine-year program at UCLA, completing undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Psychology with graduate degrees in Mathematics and Business. When not at work, John thinks you can’t beat a great Colorado evening supporting the Rockies at Coors Field.
David Jacobson / CFO, Senior VP
David has over 25 years of corporate management, accounting and investment banking experience, and holds a BS in Accounting & Finance from San Jose State University and an MBA from Santa Clara University. David is passionate about Xssentials’ commitment to providing superior customer service. When not working, David enjoys the outdoors and a never-ending quest to learn. He is currently teaching himself hardware design and ‘C’ programming.
Farr Shepherd / President – Decypher by Xssentials / Partner – Xssentials | CCDA
Farr holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Management and Management Information Systems. He has over 13 years of experience in Information Technology, and over 10 years of experience in the AV integration field. Farr specializes in designing and engineering complex networks. Farr built the Decypher brand to become the largest IT Technical Services Company in the Colorado Rockies. He has a love of networking, which has been enhanced by the complexities of working in the home automation industry, allowing him to deploy unique networks in exceptional residential environments. Outside of work, he keeps busy with his ministry and is passionate about travel and experiencing new cultures.
David Stys / VP Administration
David has over 15 years of experience with Xssentials and it’s predecessor, ESC, in everything from design and project management, to operations and finance. He now directs internal technologies and processes and enjoys using his experience to help guide such a dynamic company. When not at work you’ll find him volunteering in community education programs, or camping and boating with friends and family.
Rob Pierangeli / Area President – Aspen/Vail
Rob received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and has spent his career in technical and management roles with companies including Arrow Electronics, Cisco Systems and SAS. In his twelve-year career with Xssentials (formerly Thul Electronics), he has enjoyed helping his clients realize their vision for integrating technology and entertainment systems in their homes. He enjoys spending time with his wife Christine and two daughters, Graziella and Alina. He fills his free time by playing guitar, camping, traveling, skiing and biking.
Brad Thiess / Area President – Denver/Wyoming
Brad has worked in the systems integration industry for over 25 years. In 1992, he founded a successful systems integration firm in Madison, WI, which he operated until its sale in 2011. He earned his degree in Business Administration from Edgewood College in Madison. In addition to his role as general manager and leading the Denver team in providing their clients with a superior experience, he is responsible for cultivating key regional and national business relationships with industry partners.
Alan Banta / SVP Business Development
Alan has over 15 years of experience in the consumer electronics industry and has been recognized with several industry awards. He has held a variety of positions at Ultimate Electronics and Control4, starting as an installer and progressing to executive leadership positions. Alan is eager to help Xssentials grow, and is passionate about being a part of a team that loves doing what they do.
Paul Fleetwood / General Manager – Aspen
Paul started his career over 25 years ago in fine dining, starting out as a prep cook and finishing as an Executive Chef. He gained the skills required to manage stressful, high volume situations with large teams of people, as well as creative problem solving. For the last 15 years Paul has applied these same skills to Xssentials’ staff and client management. He has worked in a variety of roles for Xssentials, from apprentice technician to operations manager. When not at work, Paul enjoys cooking and eating with friends and family and taking long mountain walks with his dog.
Ed Trauth / VP / General Manager – Jackson
Ed graduated from Iowa State University with a BS degree in Ag-Business. After spending 20 years in corporate America, Ed entered the AV industry and has over 14 years of technical, installation, programming, and management experience in this industry. Ed enjoys assisting his clients and trade partners in making informed system decisions in this fast paced industry. Personal time is spent with his family and with such hobbies as woodworking, mountain biking, and hiking.
Damon Roth / SVP Sales / Partner
Damon has been in the integration technology business for 15 years. He started and ran his own integration company for 10 years. In 2010, he joined forces with Xssentials as SVP of Sales and a partner in the company. He had the vision in 2009 to introduce the Savant control system to the Aspen area, changing how clients live with technology and creating the first ever demanded product in the market. Damon prides himself in matching up just the right solution for a client. He believes that just because technology can, doesn’t mean you should. When not at work, you might be able to find he and his wife in the desert southwest camping and Mt. biking.
Dan Stern / SVP Sales / Partner
Dan brings 20 years of experience working in some of Colorado’s finest homes. His goal on every project is to have the electronics exist without being obtrusive. Seeing the finished project and how all trades pull together to help realize the clients dream is the best part of every project. Staying in touch with clients and having them share their experience with how much they love the system and that they use it even more than expected is always a highlight. We truly do provide the most used appliance in the home. When not working Dan loves spending time outside with his Family.

Ande Grillo / Fiber Optic and Wireless Technician
Ande spent seven years as a sub-contractor with Decypher Technologies before becoming a full-time technician three years ago. He specializes in deploying fiber optic infrastructure and wireless design. Ande was born and raised in the Roaring Fork Valley, and is an avid photographer. When not at work, he spends time with his wife and two children.
Andrew Wilson / Lead Project Manager | CCNA
Andrew has 11 years of experience, is a Cisco Certified Network Associate, and has an associate’s degree in land surveying. His favorite part of his job is being able to hand over a completed project to the homeowner. When not at work, he teaches skiing at Aspen Mountain, and enjoys traveling, fishing, and biking.
Anibal Dominguez / Service Technician
Anibal has been with Xssentials for 11 years, starting out as an installer, then working on prewire, and finally as a service technician. He is passionate about making clients happy, and enjoys the process of troubleshooting and finding solutions. Outside of work, he spends time with his family, bikes, hikes, and enjoys the outdoors.
Carlos Rojas / Client Services
Carlos was raised in Peru, is a trained pastry chef, and served on a two-year mission trip where he learned how to communicate with different personalities. When it comes to technology, he taught himself most of what he knows by helping others solve their IT problems. He specializes in technical support and hardware repair, and he loves the satisfaction of resolving customers’ issues and making their lives less complicated. Carlos loves soccer, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and son.
David Brown / VP Sales
David joined Xssentials after studying general engineering at the United States Air Force Academy. He has over 10 years of experience with Xssentials involving all aspects of our trade. He specializes in taking outstanding care of our existing clients and keeping them on the cutting edge of current technology. David travels to several music festivals around the US every year and is an avid sports fan, but when he’s not on the road or cheering on the Broncos and Syracuse Orange, softball, golf, summer outdoorsy stuff, and his boxer Dexter keep him occupied.
David Peters / Design Manager
David graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA and MA in architecture, has 11 years of experience in theater design, and 15 years of architectural experience. He enjoys working with other design professionals and getting a glimpse into the lives of homeowners. When he has time, he likes backpacking and snowboarding.
Mick Reilly / Technical Director | CCNA, CCNA Wireless, CXFF
Mick has over 15 years of experience in Information Technology. He specializes in Cisco networking and wireless. Mick loves to build networks that work and troubleshoot the ones that don’t. When he’s not at work, you’ll find him riding the powder around Aspen’s four mountains with anyone who enjoys the same.
Whitney Fleetwood / Project Manager
Whitney’s professional background consists of a variety of roles from Customer Service Management to Executive Assistant, making her highly organized and detail oriented. Her expertise has proven critical for the success of our projects and customer care. Whitney loves that she is highly involved in creating and handing over a luxurious product to our customers. When not at work, she enjoys spending time at home with her husband and dog as well as traveling to new places.
Whitney Hubbell / Marketing Coordinator
Whitney’s degree from Chapman University in Marketing & Communications provides her an excellent foundation as Marketing Coordinator. Before moving back to her roots in Aspen, she worked in broadcast journalism in Los Angeles. Whitney also pursued her passion for tennis and played a combined four years at Chapman University and St. Lawrence University. When she’s not working, you can still find her on the courts, playing softball, hiking, and skiing.
Andrea Fulp / Service Manager
Andrea is from Brazil and has a BA degree in Marketing. She has over 10 years of customer service and operations experience. The best part of her job is the interaction with customers and coworkers, as well as the challenges. She strives to make a positive impact on the company and its customers. She loves living in Vail and takes advantage of many of the activities the valley has to offer, like skiing, snowboarding, biking and hiking.
Chris Scanlan / VP | Sales
Chris brings over eight years of technical sales experience to Xssentials. He received a BBA degree from Texas State University with a concentration in Management. Chris focuses his technical and design experience to help provide technology solutions for his clients. Chris’ other interests include spending time with his family and going skiing.
Chris Thul / Office Manager
Chris worked as an Electronic Technician after receiving her degree from the Cleveland Institute of Electronics before helping found Thul Electronics in 1988. Chris managed the Office and Financial operations at Thul Electronics until the merger into Xssentials, and continues to enjoy her role in Customer Service and Human Resources. Chris is often found hiking or biking when she is not looking for ways to spoil her two children and husband, or at the racetrack supporting her racers.
Heidi Krzebietke / Marketing Coordinator
Heidi received an AA degree in Graphic Design from Brown College and a BS degree in Marketing from Metropolitan State University. She has spent over eight years in the marketing field and has experience in design, copywriting, photography, website maintenance, event planning and client relationships. Heidi is new to the Vail Valley and enjoys meeting new people in the community and planning fun events to get potential customers engaged with Xssentials. In her free time, Heidi enjoys snowboarding, hiking, riding her motorcycle and spending time with her husband, son and two dogs.
Keith Thrasher / Technician
Keith graduated from Radford University with a degree in Finance and Economics. He specializes in alarm systems and enjoys the every day challenges of his job, as well as the customer interaction that comes with it. In his free time, Keith enjoys golfing and snowboarding.
Michael Scott Colapietro / Technician
Michael has an associate’s degree in Audio/Video Systems and is NICET certified in Life Safety Systems. He enjoys troubleshooting electronic systems and communicating with customers, builders and property management personnel about those systems. During his personal time, Michael enjoys long walks on the beach, drinking piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
Michael Gass / Technician
Michael graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BS degree in Social Sciences. Currently, Michael is a technician in the alarm department specializing in testing and inspection. His favorite aspect of his job is interacting with fellow employees and customers, and he enjoys learning about new technology. In his free time, Michael enjoys riding bikes, snowboarding, hunting and camping.
Rick Carlson / Technology Advisor
Rick has been in the audio visual industry for 40 years, and he first worked for Xssentials (formerly Thul Electronics) in the Vail Valley almost 30 years ago. He worked for Thul for 13 years before moving to the Front Range, but he is enjoying being back with Xssentials and seeing how much the company has grown from its early days. Rick specializes in custom residential and commercial installations.
Russ Hohensee / Sales | CE, EE
With over 8 years of experience in the company, Russ brings us an expertise in engineering with degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. Russ has in-depth knowledge of the industry and has held positions in every aspect of our company. Russ is enthusiastic about creating luxurious, reliable, simple solutions for our clients. Besides skiing and mountain biking in Beaver Creek, Russ is a foodie at heart and you’ll often find him and his girlfriend around the Spago bar in Bachelor Gulch.
Carolyn Preston / Payroll, Accounts Payable Specialist
Carolyn has over 20 years of bookkeeping experience and a background in a variety of industries, including IT, pharmaceutical, school districts, non-profits, and research and development. She is currently working on obtaining her degree in Accounting, and is QuickBooks certified. Her favorite aspect of her job is the variety that comes every day and the fast pace, which makes the day fly by. When not working you will find Carolyn reading a book under a tree and spending time with friends and family.
Jared Moran / Programming
With over a decade of industry experience, Jared has a vast knowledge of audio, video, lighting, HVAC and control systems. He specializes in software, and the most gratifying part of his job is making the seemingly complex simple. When not geeking out at work, he geeks out building his own arcade machines, playing disc golf, and exploring Colorado with his wife and two children.
John MacKenzie / Technology Advisor
John graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a BS in Industrial Design. He has spent the last eight years in the window covering industry, both at the manufacturer and consumer level, with a focus on integration and automation of motorized products. With experience in project management on small residential projects and large, complex commercial installations, he enjoys the process of creative problem solving. When not at work, you can find him riding his motorcycle in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, or working on his life-long passion of writing and recording original music in his home studio.
Justin Faulk / Operations Manager – Lite Integration Team
Justin began his career in IT and networking, transitioned into home automation, and has over 12 years of experience in the residential audio/video industry. He started from the ground up, with positions in installation, home automation, and finally, management. His well-rounded background and passion for technology help him to integrate all devices in a home to best serve customers’ individual needs. Justin spends his free time with his wife and two kids, plays poker, hikes, and is an avid snowboarder.
Mark Constable / Sales
Mark has 25 years of experience working in the large custom home industry. His passion for getting it “just right” has earned the respect of Architects, Builders and Clients from Portland to Aspen. When not at work, Mark will likely have a camera in hand capturing Colorado.
Meredith Glover / Project Coordinator
Meredith graduated from the University of Colorado in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. She thoroughly enjoys what she does thanks to the ever-evolving nature of project management. Every day is dynamic for her, yet she embraces the challenges. When not at work, you can find her enjoying the great outdoors with her two wonderful dogs.

Pat has spent 19 years in the Consumer Electronics Industry with Experience in sales, (Retail, and Wholesale), install, management, and operations. His industry knowledge is his greatest asset. Pat enjoys the challenges that this business presents, and utilizes vendor relationships to find solid solutions to complex problems. When Not at work, you’ll find him enjoying many outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer.
Patrick O’Neill / Director of Accounting
Patrick graduated with a BA in Accounting and Tax and has over 20 years of technical experience. He specializes in tax and accounting issues in relation to business operations. Patrick loves building and maintaining a world class accounting department along with helping both his internal and external customers. He enjoys spending time with his wife and six kids. When they are not playing or watching hockey, they love to travel and explore.

Rachel graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Rachel has experience in a variety of administrative roles, and she enjoys seeing Xssentials progress and grow. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys snowboarding, working on various Pinterest projects, and spending time outdoors with her husband.
Sean Roetker / Director – Lite Integration Team
Sean spent over 25 years in the commercial office furniture industry, before turning his love of home technology into a career. Sean specializes in home technology for the middle market with an emphasis on working with new homebuilders. He enjoys the challenges and fun that the industry presents, and he is eager to foster strong relationships and create amazing experiences in customers’ homes. He is actively engaged in growing and developing a thriving mid-market team. Sean spends his free time with his wife Melissa and daughter Layne, and on any given day you’ll find him restoring a classic Mustang, attending a concert, or rooting for his favorite team, the Broncos.
Anna Zehnder / Service Supervisor
Anna graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s in Psychology, completing a specialization in Traumatic Brain Injury. She has experience working in the human service industry, giving her extensive insight into ways of working with various clientele. Her favorite aspect of working for Xssentials is being able to build positive, lasting relationships with clients by ensuring excellent customer service and exceptional technical support, and contributing to a strong team environment for personal and professional growth. Cheyenne Dixon-Montoya / Sales Coordinator
Cheyenne possesses five years of combined experience in business and office management and executive assisting, as well as an associate’s degree in Business Technologies. She enjoys working with Xssentials’ wonderful team and clients; interacting with both brings her a sense of satisfaction each day. In her free time, Cheyenne explores her many creative hobbies, enjoys motorcycle riding with her husband, and focuses on improving as a parent and a person. Missie Mausner / Business Development
After a six-year hiatus, Missie is happy to be back in the Roaring Fork Valley and excited to bring her data center and managed services experience to the team. Missie just moved from Harrisburg, PA, where she worked for a national value-added reseller, starting as an Inside Sales Representative and working her way to the role of Technology Solutions Executive. In that role she serviced local counties, the SMB market, and most notably, Penn State University and its 23 campuses. Missie enjoys getting to know her clientele and looks forward to meeting their technology needs. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, camping and skiing with her husband and three daughters.

Samantha graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Journalism, has experience in communications and PR, and specializes in writing and editing.
